Well where do I start? At the beginning? At the end? How about with a bit of an explanation!
Why start a Blogspot? That's easy to answer!
Because my mate Jim aka Soulmared has started one and it's brilliant! (http://toffeesoul.blogspot.com), after much discussion we decided that blogs must be the future of music sharing.
Next question please.
What is the capital of Mongolia?
Who cares!
Next question please.
What's going to be on your Blog?
Soul, Soul, Soul and just a bit of Soul.
What kind of Soul?
Well mainly sixties, say 99.999999999999 percent with a bit of seventies.
Will it be all Northern Soul?
No, not all but lets face it what exactly is Northern Soul, does anyone know anymore? Does anyone care? I don't, it's all sixties Soul as far as I'm concerned and sorry chaps (oops and chapettes) it is my Blog so I make the rules!
But yes it will contain lots and lots of what I consider Northern Soul but also lots of Deep Soul and any other form of sixties Soul anyone cares to mention.
It will have classic albums by the likes of the Four Tops, Otis Redding, Linda Jones, Chuck Jackson, Patti Austin, J.J Jacckson etc, plenty of complilations, 45 Label listings etc.
It will also eventually have the story of a gezzer I used to know back in the old days, now he was a Northern Soul.
Anyway when did it all start for me? I think it was sometime in late 1970 at the local youth club where the old guys (some were 16!!!!) used to play odd music and dance in strange ways. My mates old brother was one of these and he told me and Les (my mate) it was Soul. What like the bottom of our shoes? no dickhead like Soul in your body. Where's that then? next to the heart? Threating looks make us beat a hasty retreat! Ohh yeah it's called Soul music, hey Les listen to this Sweet Soul Music, what a song (we were only 10 at the time) and what's this, My Head Is To The Great Man by Marvin Gay, bloody good this Soul Music. God what's this Tears Of A Clown, Whow! This Old Heart Of Mine, Soul Man, God I want to be a Soul Man. I did actually go to the local record shop and ask for My Head Is To The Great Man by Marvin Gay. Why are they laughing? have they never heard of it? One stunner (it was love at first sight) must have felt sorry for me and told me it was actually I Heard It Through The Grapevine by Marvin Gaye and did I like Motown? Motown what's that? no, I like Soul Music and did she want to come to the youth club? hwer reply was devastating "Sorry love your a bit young for me". Bit young why I'm 10 and how old are you, mmmm 19. Anyway on the bus home I clutched my first Soul record (call in Soul and not Soul Music, love) and thought of my new love. Well as love affairs go that didn't go anywhere, well it didn't even start but my love for Soul did and still does, so here we go,
